"Young people are not just the future of the Society in New Zealand- they are the Society, as they always have been. The Society was founded by seven people, most of whom were teenagers."
Vinnies Youth and Young Vinnies
The Christchurch Young Vinnies (Up to year 10) and Vinnies Youth (senior secondary students and older) team has been established to assist schools, tertiary institutions and other Catholic communities in engaging young people in the spirituality and good works of the St Vincent de Paul movement. We offer support and resources for people already working with Young Vinnies and for other social justice groups in our schools and parishes.

Mission
To help those aged up to 35 to realise that there are people in society in need, and to encourage them to help those people. They are also encouraged to realise that the reason Vincentians help people is not because they feel good doing this work but because of the gospel message to love your neighbour as yourself.

40 Bags in 40 Days
Our 2019 Lenten Appeal 40 Bags in 40 Days had an amazing response with over 5,400 items collected for the Society, plus 600 food items and more than 100 toiletries.
Term 4 Christmas Appeal
With the help of generous donations from our schools, parishes and wider community, Young Vinnies and St Vincent de Paul Christchurch were able to give out over 465 gifts for individuals we supported during the Christmas period.
2019 Faith in Action Day
On the 6th of September Young Vinnies from across Christchurch came together to put their faith into action. Together we helped out at the Stanmore Road opportunity shop, baked for Ronald McDonald House, made cards and gifts for people at the hospital, dropped off parcels to homeless in the city, visited a rest home and participated in random acts of kindness. It was a fantastic day with a great turnout from our schools. Thank you to everyone attended and helped us to help others.
2019 Commissioning Mass
On June 26th we held our Commissioning Mass for 2019. Fifteen schools attended and over 100 students were welcomed as members of the Society. Our 2020 Commissioning Mass will be held in term 2.
