"Young people are not just the future of the Society in New Zealand- they are the Society, as they always have been. The Society was founded by seven people, most of whom were teenagers."
Vinnies Youth Christchurch
The Christchurch Young Vinnies Team has been established to assist Schools, Tertiary institutions and other Catholic communities in engaging young people in the spirituality and good works of the St. Vincent de Paul movement. We offer support and resources for people already working with Young Vinnies, and for other Social Justice groups in our Schools and Parishes.
We look forward to meeting and working with the different communities and conferences throughout our City and surrounding region.
"YOUNG people are not just the FUTURE of the society in New Zealand - they are the Society, as they always have been. The Society was founded by seven people, most of whom were teenagers."
The object of having a youth arm of the Society that caters for people from primary school to about age 30 is to help them to realise that there are people in society in need, and to encourage them to help those people. They are also encouraged to realise that the reason Vincentians help people is not just because they feel good doing this work, but because of the Gospel message to love your neighbour as yourself.

On June 26th we held our Commissioning Mass for 2019. Fifteen schools attending this year- one more than 2018! It was great to see you all there and celebrate the hard work that you have done so far this year.

We have had an amazing outcome, with many of our primary and secondary schools taking part.

Faith in Action Day
On the 6th of September Young Vinnies from across Christchurch came together to put their faith into action. Together we helped out at the opportunity shop, baked for Ronald McDonald House, made cards and gifts for people at the hospital, dropped off parcels to homeless in the city, visited a rest home and participated in random acts of kindness.
It was a fantastic day with a great turnout from our schools.
Thank you to everyone attended and helped us to help others.
Term 3 2019
Young Vinnies Christchurch is supporting our local stores and the environment by focusing on environmentally friendly practices for term 3. As part of this we will be discussing environmental refugees, current New Zealand legislation going plastic bag free, helping to keep our schools clean, and will be making eco bags for the students and our op shops.
'Just Jackets and Blankets Winter Initiative.'
Our focus for term 2 was responding to the needs of those in our community with compassion and kindness.
To address the need for blankets and jackets over winter, we held a 'Just Jackets and Blankets' drive with our schools.
Eight fantastic schools and their hardworking students participated in this initiative. Over 1000 clothing items were collected and more than 100 blankets! Thank you for helping to keep people in need warm over Winter.
40 Bags in 40 Days
Our 2019 Lenten Appeal 40 Bags in 40 Days had an amazing response with over 5,400 items collected for the Society, plus 600 food items and more than 100 toiletries. Thank you to the amazing schools who participated in this.
