Pavitt Street Social Housing Project
The Society of St Vincent de Paul Christchurch is embarking on a much-needed project that will provide warm, secure and affordable housing for up to seven young families at a time.
St Vincent de Paul have seen first-hand how difficult it is for young families in our community to access the housing they need. Young parents on low incomes struggle to find suitable housing. Sadly, many experience homelessness or housing insecurity as a result. The Pavitt Street Social Housing Project involves building seven new housing units on land at the back of the Stanmore Road shop for young families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. This modern, warm, and dry housing, consisting of six 2-bedroom units and one 3-bedroom unit, will be available to rent on a short to medium term basis, anywhere from 3 months to 2 or more years. Each family will also have access to the wrap-around and advocacy support services they need. The combination of housing and specialist support will enable families to transition from housing insecurity/homelessness to housing stability. The housing situation for young people in Christchurch is acute and St Vincent de Paul is committed to doing something about it. Over half of the funds required to complete the project have been raised. The Society of St Vincent de Paul Christchurch is actively fundraising towards reaching the remaining $1M needed.
